Social Charging Station
SKU:
Conception, prototyping, circuit integration
Senior mechanical engineering students at Carnegie Mellon University develop a product from conception to prototype as their senior capstone project.
My team and I built a system to promote social interaction: a charging station which charges phones faster when users choose to use the system together. Our system won "Most Innovative" at the final design expo, of six designs.
Key functions:

Key functions:
- Seats use gas springs to act as pressure switches, registering each user as a part of the system when they sit down
- Each closed switch increases the charging rate to all phones by decreasing the overall electrical resistance of the system
